Voices from Wajir: How Sand Dams Are Changing Lives

In Wajir County, the construction of sand dams and sub-surface water retention structures under HoAGW4RP's Component 1A is already showing tangible results for pastoral communities.

"Before, we walked 12 kilometres for water in the dry season," said one community member from Eldas sub-county. "Now the borehole near the dam gives us water even in drought months."

The managed aquifer recharge infrastructure — including berkads, sand dams and spreading channels — is designed to replenish groundwater naturally during rainfall events, storing water for use during dry periods.
